OVERVIEW
The Bihari ethnic minority community live mostly near or in extremely crowded refugee camps. They are a forgotten and despised group of people. The vocational training project for the impoverished and illiterate men and women is focused on house-wiring, air-conditioning, refrigeration skills and tailoring.
WHAT WE LIKE ABOUT IT
This project is helping to break the poverty trap of limited education, low skills capacity and low self-respect by providing skills training by qualified and dedicated staff who demonstrate high standards of integrity and faithfulness. Once trained, the participants will be competitive in the work market or be able to start a small business.
BUDGET
The budget will provide rent, course materials and salaries for teachers.
THE NEED
Bangladesh has a population of 170 million people. Many are day labourers and garment workers earning less than $3 per day. Skills training is prohibitively expensive for the masses of illiterate or the semi-literate poor. The aim of this project is to make available low-cost high-quality skills training as a means of breaking the cycle of poverty.
